Among long-distance truckers, getting enough rest at night is crucial. That is why most fleets invest in sleeper trucks or trucks with sleeping berths. They are designed for inter-state hauling where truck drivers spend days, weeks, or months on the road.

Customized sleepers are the truck driver’s second home along the road. With one or two bedrooms, they also have a space for cooking, dining, entertainment, and even showering. They are not only designed with hard work in mind. But they are also configured to meet driving regulations versus resting time.

The most popular sleeper cabs in the market today are Freightliner, Hino, International, Mack, and what we want to talk about in this article, Kenworth.

Kenworth is an American truck brand founded in 1923 and was bought by PACCAR in 1945. It has marked several firsts in the trucking industry:

  • The first to produce a standard truck powered by a diesel engine.
  • The first to introduce an aerodynamically designed heavy-duty semi-truck.
  • The first to manufacture a raised-roof sleeper cab.

In 1992, Kenworth was also the 1st to introduce a sloped hood sleeper cab. Such a design initially became controversial in the trucking industry. Yet, such a design combined with a set-back axle has greatly improved the semi-truck’s aerodynamics, fuel efficiency, and maneuverability. Other American truck manufacturers have then introduced similar designs. This marked Kenworth as a top brand when it comes to sleeper trucks.
